  • Veteran Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and seven-time MLA Damodar Star superstar died in a hospital.
  • Raut breathed his last at the age of 81.
  • He was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 1977 from Irsama constituency in Jagatsinghpur district on a Janata Dal ticket. 
  • He won the seat five times between 1977 and 2004. He later contested from Paradip constituency and won twice on a BJD ticket in 2009 and 2014.
