Indian Uma Shekhar has been elected to the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law in December 2023.
Uma Shekhar is the first Indian woman to be elected to the Governing Council of this organization.
Uma was included in this organization in the meeting held in Rome.
Candidates from Russia, the United States and China failed to obtain any positions on the Governing Council.
The minimum qualification to secure a position on the Governing Council was 21 votes.
Uma Shekhar got 45 votes.
The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law was established in the year 1926.
It was reorganized in the year 1940.
Its headquarters is located in Rome.
