  • The Ilyushin-38 Sea Dragon is a long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
  • Recently the Indian Navy has retired this reconnaissance aircraft.
  • It has served the Indian Navy for 46 years.
  • Ilyushin-38 Sea Dragon was inducted into the Navy in the year 1977.
  • It was used for long-range maritime and anti-submarine warfare.
  • The decommissioning ceremony was held at INS Hansa in Dabolim, Goa.
  • The chief guest of the ceremony was Naval Chief Admiral R. Was Hari Kumar.
  • The Ilyushin-38 Sea Dragon was assigned to Naval Squadron INAS 315.
  • This aircraft participated in the Republic Day fly-past for the first and last time.
  • The IL-38 was the oldest maritime surveillance aircraft in the Indian inventory.
  • This aircraft has gradually been replaced by the American P 8 I reconnaissance aircraft manufactured by Boeing.
