Recently the Central Government has declared Surat Airport as an international airport.
This announcement was made by the Committee on Economic Affairs of the Union Cabinet.
This committee was chaired by the Prime Minister.
If declared an international airport, Surat Airport will not only become an important gateway for international passengers, but it will also provide high-level facilities for uninterrupted export-import operations to the rich diamond and textile industries of the state.

This will make Surat City Airport a major airport in the international aviation scene and will also usher in a new era of prosperity in the region.
