The application has been made after Pakistan joins the BRICS association in November, 2023.
The announcement was made by Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.
China has indicated that it will support Pakistan's joining BRICS.
BRICS currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
South Africa was included in it in the year 2010.
The 15th BRICS summit was held in Johannesburg in August, 2023.
