  • The 'Sandeep Shinde' committee was constituted by the Government of Maharashtra in August, 2023.
  • This committee is concerned with the process of deciding the procedure for issuing Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community in Marathwada.
  • Recently the report of this committee constituted under the chairmanship of Sandeep Shinde has been accepted by the Maharashtra Government.
  • According to this report, now the process of issuing Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community will be started.
  • Kunbi community will be eligible for reservation in Other Backward Classes.
  • This decision has come amid the indefinite fast of activist Manoj Jarange demanding reservation for the Maratha community and incidents of violence over this demand in some parts of the state.
  • Manoj Jarange has been on fast for many years regarding reservation for Maratha community.
  • Maratha population in Maharashtra is about 32%.
  • They were provided 16% reservation in education and government jobs in the year 2018.
  • In the year 2021, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court canceled this reservation.
