Late Vice-Admiral Benoy Roy Chowdhury was a hero of the India-Pakistan war of 1971.
In this war, Benoy Roy was posted as an engineer on INS Vikrant.
Recently he has been awarded Vir Chakra.
'Veer Chakra' is an award given for military bravery during wartime.
During the Indo-Pak war of 1971, the boiler of INS Vikrant was not functioning properly.
Benoy Roy had overcome this shortcoming by showing immense skill with his team.
The then Navy Chief Admiral SM Nanda had honored Roy with the title of 'An Engineer Par Excellence'.
This Vir Chakra Award was received by INS Shivaji.
INS Shivaji is one of the premier technical training establishments of the Indian Navy.
It is situated in Lonavala, Maharashtra.
