BIMSTEC is a regional organization of countries bordering the Indian Ocean.
Recently, Indramani Pandey of India has been appointed as the new Secretary General of BIMSTEC.
This is the first time that an Indian has been appointed Secretary General of BIMSTEC.
Indramani Pandey was earlier India's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
Five countries of South Asia – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and two countries of South-East Asia – Myanmar and Thailand are included.
BIMSTEC was established in the year 1997.
Its headquarters is located in Dhaka.
