  • Recently India's second indigenous nuclear plant Kakrapar has started.
  • Kakrapar is a nuclear power plant with a production capacity of 700 MW.
  • This is the second plant in the series of 16 indigenous pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR) of 700 MW each being set up in the country.
  • This plant was constructed by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.
  • Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant is located near Mandvi and Tapi rivers in Surat, Gujarat.
  • Its first phase was started in May 1993.
  • Its second phase started in the year 2007.
  • The third phase of Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant was commissioned in 2021.
  • Its fourth phase has started in December 2023.
