  • It is a bovid species native to the Himalayas.
  • Its appearance is like that of a goat and antelope.
  • This species is found in the Himalayas in Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, southern Tibet and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in India.
  • It has been included in the IUCN Red List.
  • Apart from this, it is also listed in Schedule 3 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
  • Its population is declining significantly in India due to habitat loss and hunting.
  • Valmiki Tiger Reserve is the only tiger reserve in Bihar located in the north-western part of West Champaran district of Bihar, bordering Nepal.
