  • The large survey vessel named 'Sandhyak' has been handed over to the Indian Navy in December 2023.
  • The vessel has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited.
  • It is the first of four survey vessels.
  • The Defense Ministry had signed an agreement with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited in October 2018 for the construction of these 4 survey vessels.
  • The primary role of the vessel will be to conduct complete coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of port approaches and determination of navigation channels/routes.
  • Sandhyak has a displacement capacity of approximately 3400 tonnes and a length of 110 metres.
