The large survey vessel named 'Sandhyak' has been handed over to the Indian Navy in December 2023.
The vessel has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited.
It is the first of four survey vessels.
The Defense Ministry had signed an agreement with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited in October 2018 for the construction of these 4 survey vessels.
The primary role of the vessel will be to conduct complete coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of port approaches and determination of navigation channels/routes.
Sandhyak has a displacement capacity of approximately 3400 tonnes and a length of 110 metres.
