December 2023 marks 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea.
On this occasion, the Indian Prime Minister congratulated South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Diplomatic relations were formally established between the two countries in the year 1973.
The two countries formed a 'strategic partnership' in 2010.
This partnership was upgraded to a 'Special Strategic Partnership' during the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Seoul in 2015.
Trade between the two countries has increased significantly.
It increased from $530 million during the 1992–1993 fiscal year to billion dollars during 2006–2007.
