Category : State Published on: December 27 2025
A caste panchayat in Jalore district, Rajasthan, has issued a diktat banning smartphone use by married women of a section of the Jat community, effective from Republic Day 2026. Passed by the Sundhamata Patti panchayat covering 15 villages, the decision allows only basic phones, citing concerns over mobile addiction and child wellbeing. The move has drawn strong criticism from activists, reigniting debates on women’s rights, digital access and the legality of caste panchayats.
