Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) discovered two new lichen moth species in the eastern Himalayas. Named 'Caulocera hollowayi' (from Golitar, Sikkim) and 'Asura buxa' (from Panijhora, West Bengal), these were published in the journal 'Zootaxa' on March 2, 2026.
Researchers Navneet Singh, Santosh Singh, and Srishti Bhattacharya identified them through wing colour patterns and microscopic structures. The study also recorded seven other moth species new to India, enriching the country's documented biodiversity.
