1994-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre, Shri Piyush Goyal, assumed charge as Secretary of the Ministry of Mines on September 4, 2025. Prior to this, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of NATGRID under the Ministry of Home Affairs. In his new role, Piyush Goyal will lead India’s mining sector at a crucial time, as the demand for critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements has become essential to achieving the goals of energy transition, self-reliance, and net-zero emissions.
