Parliament has passed the Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026 by voice vote, triggering debate between the government and opposition. Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the law clarifies provisions of the 2020 labour reforms and protects worker rights while improving ease of doing business.
Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge called it anti-worker, warning of weakened job security. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticised retrospective changes to the law. The amendment relates to the broader consolidation of India’s labour framework into four national labour codes.
