The Rajya Sabha passed the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023, which amends the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 2002. The Act regulates mining in maritime zones of India.
The proposed amendments introduce auction for allocation of operating rights in offshore areas.
