Louis Gossett Jr., who won an Academy Award for his performance in "An Officer and a Gentleman" and an Emmy for the groundbreaking short series "Roots," has died at the age of 87.
In addition to 'An Officer and a Gentleman', Gossett is best known for the films 'Enemy Mine' (1985), in which he played the role of an alien, who was forced to reconcile with his human enemy.
His historic Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in 1983 further cemented his legacy as a trailblazer in Hollywood.
