Nepal has imposed a ban on 26 popular social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Reddit, and Snapchat. According to the government, the banned platforms failed to comply with requirements under the Directive for Regulation of Social Media Use, 2080, which mandates social media companies to register locally, set up offices in Nepal, and appoint official contact persons to ensure adherence to national laws.
