NATO has introduced Arctic Sentry, a coordination framework unifying Arctic military exercises to counter rising Russian and Chinese activity in the region. The initiative improves interoperability and situational awareness without creating a permanent force. It comes amid alliance tensions over US remarks on Greenland and aims to reinforce unity among members. With climate change opening new sea routes and resources, the Arctic has become central to NATO’s strategic defence planning.
