  • On March 16, 1995, the first dose of Oral Polio vaccine was administered, for the first time, to people in India. 
  • Since then, the country annually observes March 16 as the National Vaccination Day.
  • National Vaccination Day is also known as National Immunization Day. It marks victory of India against Polio disease.
  • It creates awareness on how vaccination or immunization keeps the citizens of the country safe from highly infectious diseases.
  • This year's theme is 'Vaccines Work for All'.
