  • NASA has re-established contact with the intrepid Ingenuity Mars Helicopter after more than two months of radio silence. 
  • NASA sent a mission to Mars in February 2021. Under this mission, a mini helicopter Ingenuity and Preservation Rover were sent to Mars. 
  • Ingenuity's 52nd flight launched on April 26, but mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California lost contact as it descended to the surface following its two minute, 1,191-foot (363-meter) hop.
  • Under this mission, the Ingenuity helicopter has to send pictures of Mars to NASA while flying and the rover has to collect samples from the ground of Mars.
  • The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was built by JPL, which also manages the project for NASA Headquarters. It is supported by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
  • At NASA Headquarters, Dave Lavery is the program executive for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter.
