  • The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a proposal to elevate the Mairang civil sub-division to the status of a district.
  • The district will be known as Eastern West Khasi Hills.
  • Mairang will now be part of the West Khasi Hills district.
  • Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will inaugurate the new district on November 10, 2021.
  • The total number of districts in the state will rise to 12 as a result of this.
