Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, 66, tragically passed away on January 28, 2026, in a plane crash near Baramati during an emergency landing, also killing pilots and security staff. Born July 22, 1959, in Deolali Pravara, he rose from cooperative politics to eight-term Baramati MLA and NCP leader after his father's death.
Nicknamed "Ajit Dada," he served as Deputy CM six times, managing Finance, Irrigation, and Planning across coalitions. His 2023 NCP split bolstered the BJP-led government, leaving a lasting legacy in state budgets and cooperatives. Maharashtra declared three days of mourning for the mass leader connected deeply with the people.
