India’s top four life insurance companies have reported a significant drop in the number of lives insured in FY25, primarily due to a slowdown in credit-linked life insurance policies. Stress in the microfinance sector reduced loan disbursements, which in turn led to fewer new customers being brought under insurance coverage. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance covered 91.74 million lives in FY25, compared to 96.91 million in FY24, highlighting the downward trend.
