  • Kanniyakumari clove from Tamil Nadu was recently awarded the prestigious Geographical Indication Tag (GI Tag) by the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks, who also serves as the Registrar of Geographical Indications.
  • It is well-known for its distinct characteristics, such as a high concentration of volatile oil content and aroma.
  • The East India Company introduced clove to India in the 1800s along the Courtalam high ranges of the former south Travancore region.
