International Migrants Day is observed on 18 December 2025 to recognise the invaluable contributions of migrants to societies and economies worldwide. Proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2000, the day marks the adoption of the 1990 UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers. It highlights both the benefits migrants bring, such as economic growth and cultural diversity, and the challenges they face, including exploitation, discrimination, unsafe migration routes, and lack of access to essential services.
