International Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 8 September.
The day aims to highlight the importance of literacy for human rights, dignity, and the development of sustainable societies.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is responsible for overseeing and promoting International Literacy Day.
The theme for International Literacy Day 2023 is ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’.
