  • Every year on October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child is observed to recognise girls' rights and the unique challenges they face around the world.
  • The Day recognises the importance, power, and potential of adolescent girls by encouraging more opportunities for them.
  • International Day of the Girl Child was first achieved by the Beijing Declaration in 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing.
  • This year's International Day of the Girl Child has the theme "Digital Generation. Our Generation." Despite the fact that the pandemic has forced the world to sit in front of laptop/mobile screens to learn and earn, approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide still do not have internet access.
