  • International Day of Indigenous Peoples with Disabilities is celebrated on 3 December.
  • It is also called International Day of Disabilities.
  • The day is about promoting disability at every level of society and development and promoting political, social, economic and cultural life.
  • Today more than 1.3 billion people experience a severe disability, representing 16% of the world population.
  • In 2019, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres launched the Disability Inclusion Strategy to integrate disability into every function and core function of the entire UN system.
  • This day was declared in the year 1992.
  • The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities this year 2023 is 'For, with, and for people with disabilities, saved and united in action'.
