International Day of Indigenous Peoples with Disabilities is celebrated on 3 December.
It is also called International Day of Disabilities.
The day is about promoting disability at every level of society and development and promoting political, social, economic and cultural life.
Today more than 1.3 billion people experience a severe disability, representing 16% of the world population.
In 2019, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres launched the Disability Inclusion Strategy to integrate disability into every function and core function of the entire UN system.
This day was declared in the year 1992.
The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities this year 2023 is 'For, with, and for people with disabilities, saved and united in action'.
