  • Pratima Bhullar Maldonado, an Indian-origin police officer, has become the highest-ranking South Asian female officer in the New York Police Department. 
  • She was recently promoted to the position of Captain and currently oversees the 102nd Police Precinct in South Richmond Hill, Queens.
  • According to the NYPD, of the department's 33,787 members, 10.5 per cent are Asian.
  • Maldonado runs the 102nd Police Precinct in South Richmond Hill, Queens.
  • She joined the NYPD in 1999 and has served in a variety of roles, including patrol officer, detective, and sergeant.
