  • According to data from the Sample Registration System, India's infant mortality rate has dropped to 30, but the decline has slowed in most states over the last five years (SRS).
  • It has steadily improved over the last few years. However, there is a significant difference between states. While the situation in Kerala is very good, the rate in Madhya Pradesh is very high.
  • India's infant mortality rate in 1990 was 129 per 1000. It came down to 58 in 2005 and 50 in 2009. In 2014 it was 39 per 1000 and now it has come down to 30.
