Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the India Rankings 2025 under the NIRF on September 4, 2025. IIT Madras secured the top position overall for the seventh consecutive year and led engineering for the tenth year, while IISc Bengaluru topped the universities and research categories. IIM Ahmedabad retained its lead in management, and AIIMS Delhi ranked first in medical for the eighth year. New categories such as State Public Universities, Open Universities, Skill Universities, Innovation, and SDG were introduced, with IIT Madras leading Innovation and SDG. Participation reached a record high with over 14,000 applications, reinforcing NIRF’s role in shaping quality and global competitiveness in Indian higher education.
