India and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to climate adaptation and resilience during a high-level Climate Talk in New Delhi. The dialogue focused on ecosystem-based approaches and support for India’s upcoming National Adaptation Plan (NAP). Jochen Flasbarth announced a new Large Grant project under the International Climate Initiative, providing up to EUR 20 million for India.
The project will enhance resilience in high-risk ecosystems, including the Himalayas, Western Ghats, North-East, island territories, and Lower Gangetic floodplains. It will promote forest restoration, biodiversity corridors, flood control, groundwater recharge, and community-led resource management. Innovative financing tools such as blended finance, biodiversity credits, and insurance-based risk solutions will also be explored.
India’s NAP, being finalised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, aims to integrate climate resilience into development planning, reflecting the global shift toward adaptation alongside mitigation.
