  • Uttar Pradesh has become the state with the highest number of river dolphins recorded in India, where an estimated 6,327 dolphins were counted, including a survey of 28 rivers and an area of 8,500 km. 
  • As part of 'Project Dolphin', a comprehensive survey was conducted for the first time to estimate the population of river dolphins in eight states - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, and Punjab.
