  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR successfully conducted a trial run of delivery of blood bags by drones under its iDrone initiative. 
  • The trial run, as part of a pathbreaking validation study, has been undertaken for the first time in the country by the ICMR.
  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) flew 10 units of whole blood samples using drone technology for 40 minutes – time taken by an ambulance to transport a similar set of blood samples from Delhi’s Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Noida, UP.
  • The trial run has been undertaken for the first time in the country by the collaborative efforts of ICMR, LHMC, GIMS and Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), Noida.
  • i-DRONE' was first used during covid19 pandemic by ICMR for distributing vaccines to unreachable areas.
