IAS officer Supriya Sahu has been honoured as a 2025 UN Champions of the Earth laureate in the Inspiration and Action category for her pioneering environmental leadership. Awarded at a UNEP ceremony in Nairobi, she was recognised for initiatives spanning plastic reduction, wildlife conservation and climate resilience. Tamil Nadu’s Cool Roof Project, which reduced indoor temperatures by 5–8°C in vulnerable communities, earned global praise. Sahu highlighted the importance of community-driven climate action and collective responsibility to protect nature.
