  • Recently, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has sent a proposal for artificial rain to tackle pollution in Delhi-NCR.
  • This proposal has been sent to Delhi Government.
  • IIT. Kanpur has been working for more than 5 years on creating the necessary conditions for artificial rain and it was successfully tested in July.
  • The researchers have received permission from government authorities, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, for cloud seeding.
  • Artificial rain requires specific meteorological conditions, such as the presence of clouds with sufficient moisture and suitable winds.
  • Silver iodide, potassium iodide and dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) are the most common chemicals used for cloud seeding.
