  • Gujarat’s distinctive handicraft ‘Mata ni Pachedi’ has been given GI tag. 
  • The word Mata ni Pachedi in Gujarati language literally means behind the goddess. Pachhedi is a religious textile folk art. 
  • In which stories and legends related to the Mother Goddess are engraved in the center. 
  • Traditionally these Pachedis are hand painted or block printed on the fabric. 
  • The origin of this art is believed to be about 300 years ago. 
  • In 2020, the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (Gujcost) applied for GI tag to Mata Ni Pachedi.
  • This is the 17th GI tag for products from Gujarat.
