French European Union (EU) Commissioner Thierry Breton resigned from the bloc's executive body on Monday (September 16, 2024) with immediate effect and published a photo of his resignation on social network X.
The reason for Breton's resignation was that von der Leyen had asked France to withdraw his name to the commission for personal reasons and offered to give a supposedly more influential portfolio in return.
