·         Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been found guilty of illegally funding his 2012 re-election and sentenced to one year in prison by a French court on September 30, 2021.

·         Nicolas Sarkozy served as President of France from 2007 to 2012.

·         In the 2012 elections, he was defeated by the Socialist Party's François Hollande by a margin of 3.2 percent of the vote.
