India and the U.S. have signed a Cultural Property Agreement (CPA) to prevent the smuggling of Indian antiquities. So far, 588 artifacts have been repatriated from the U.S., including 297 in 2024.
The CPA includes provisions for technical assistance, cooperation against illegal trade, and promoting mutual understanding. India also collaborates with UNESCO and Interpol as needed.
