  • Australia has committed to develop a 20-kilogram semi-autonomous lunar rover for NASA, which will travel to the Moon in quest of oxygen as early as 2026.
  • Oxygen recovered from the lunar surface would eventually be utilised to support future expeditions to Mars and to sustain a human presence on the moon.
  • The agreement on this mission between the Australian and US Space Agencies will strengthen a space exploration connection with Australia that extends back more than 50 years.
