Anandkumar Velkumar has made history by winning India’s first-ever gold medal in speed skating. The 22-year-old won the Senior Men’s 1000m Sprint at the Speed Skating World Championships 2025 in Beidaihe (China) with a time of 1:24.924. This is a proud moment for India, as it is the country’s first world title in speed skating. Earlier in the same championship, Anandkumar also won a bronze medal in the 500m sprint, another first for India in this sport.
