  • The opening ceremony took place at a park near Lal Chowk, the commercial centre of Srinagar.
  • The 'Sacrifice Pillar' is a monument that is being built as part of the Srinagar Smart City project.
  • The aim of the memorial is to honour the courageous martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
  • Jammu and Kashmir was a state of India until August 2019, which was bifurcated as two union territories namely Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 31 August 2019.
