  • Cartoos Saab: A Soldier’s Story of Resilience in Adversity by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Ian Cardozo was launched at Tata Lit Live Festival in Bandra, Mumbai.
  • During the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Cardozo stepped on a land mine and sustained major injuries. As no medical assistance was available, Cardozo used his khurki (a type of machete used by the Gorkhas) to amputate his leg and save his life.
  • Through the medium of his book, Cardozo wishes to inspire everyone who reads it and to let people know about the resilience and bravery of his fellow Gorkha soldiers.
  • He wants to draw attention to the dedication and determination displayed by the Indian Army and its soldiers.
