Maharashtra celebrates the 350th Coronation anniversary of the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
According to the Gregorian calendar, the Maratha warrior king was crowned on June 6, 1674, at the Raigad fort, which became the foundation of “Hindavi Swaraj” or self-rule of Hindus.
Meanwhile, according to the Hindu calendar, the anniversary of his coronation falls on June 2 this year.
The coronation of Shivaji Maharaj was conducted on June 6, 1674 at Raigad fort on the 13th day (trayodashi) of the first fortnight of the month of Jyeshtha. The ceremony was conducted as per the shastras by Vishweshwar or Gaga Bhatta of Varanasi.
