Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a rapid transformation in its road infrastructure with over 15 expressways currently operational, under construction, or in the planning stage. These expressways, developed under the Bharat Mala Project, are strengthening connectivity, reducing travel time, boosting the real estate sector, and promoting economic growth across the state.

 

Key Expressways in UP

  • Yamuna Expressway: First expressway in UP, connecting Delhi to Agra, 165.5 km long, 6 lanes, inaugurated in August 2012.
  • Noida–Greater Noida Expressway: 24.53 km, 6 lanes, connecting Noida with Greater Noida.
  • Agra–Lucknow Expressway: Greenfield project, 302 km, reduces travel time from six hours to 3.5 hours, inaugurated in November 2016.
  • Delhi–Meerut Expressway: 96 km, connects Delhi to Meerut, inaugurated in April 2021.
  • Purvanchal Expressway: 340.82 km, connecting Lucknow to Ghazipur, inaugurated in November 2021.
  • Bundelkhand Expressway: 296.07 km, fastest-built expressway, connects Chitrakoot to Etawah, inaugurated in July 2022.
  • Ganga Expressway: Longest expressway at 594 km, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, expected completion in December 2025.
  • Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway: 62.76 km, reduces traffic on NH 25, expected completion in July 2025.
  • Ghaziabad–Kanpur Expressway: 380 km, expected completion in 2026.
  • Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway: 520 km, connecting UP, Bihar, and West Bengal, expected completion in December 2025.
  • Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Expressway: 210 km, expected completion July 2025.
  • Ghazipur–Ballia–Manjhi Ghat Expressway: Connects UP with Bihar, expected completion within 2 years.
  • Vindhya Expressway: 320 km, connecting Prayagraj to Sonbhadra, under development.
  • Agra–Gwalior Expressway: 88 km after completion, connecting UP and MP.
  • Gorakhpur–Shamli Expressway: Longest expressway in UP at 700 km, DPR under preparation, construction expected in 2025.
  • Kanpur–Kabrai Greenfield Highway: 112 km, four lanes, DPR preparation underway.
  • Noida–Lucknow Expressway: Newly announced greenfield project, expected to reduce travel time to 3–4 hours.

To create an integrated road network, UP is also constructing link expressways connecting major expressways:

  • Chitrakoot Link Expressway
  • Jhansi–Jalaun High-Speed Link Expressway
  • Gorakhpur Link Expressway
  • Lucknow Link Expressway
  • Farrukhabad Link Expressway
  • Jewar Link Expressway
  • Meerut–Haridwar Link Expressway
  • Chitrakoot–Rewa Link Expressway

These links will further ease travel, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance connectivity between cities and rural areas.
