UPSC chairman Manoj Soni resigns 5 - years before tenure

  • UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni has submitted his resignation citing personal reasons, though it has not yet been accepted. His tenure was slated to end in 2029, five years before the termination of his tenure.
  • Manoj Soni, 59, an alumnus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, specialized in International Relations and taught at Sardar Patel University from 1991 to 2016. He became a Member of the UPSC in 2017 and took oath as Chairperson on May 16 last year.
  • In 2013, Soni was honored as "Honorary Mayor-President of the City of Baton Rouge" for his leadership in IT literacy. In 2015, he received the World Education Congress Global Award for Distance Learning Leadership from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London. He has also served on various Boards of Governors in higher education and public administration.
