  • देश में प्रतिवर्ष 2 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस मनाया जाता है।
  • राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस 2 दिसंबर 1984 को भोपाल गैस त्रासदी में अपनी जान गंवाने वालों की याद में मनाया जाता है। 
  • इस दिन का उद्देश्य प्रदूषित जल, भूमि और वायु के कारण होने वाली मौतों के बारे में जागरूकता लाना है।
  • 2 दिसंबर, 1984 की रात को अमेरिकी कंपनी यूनियन कार्बाइड इंडिया लिमिटेड  के प्लांट से ‘मिथाइल आइसोसाइनाइट’ गैस का रिसाव हुआ था।
  • इस रिसाव ने भोपाल शहर को एक विशाल गैस चैंबर में परिवर्तित कर दिया था। 
  • कम-से-कम 30 टन मिथाइल आइसोसाइनाइट गैस के रिसाव के कारण तकरीबन 15,000 से अधिक लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई थी और लाखों लोग इस भयावह त्रासदी से प्रभावित हुए थे।
  • राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस 2023 की थीम 'स्वच्छ और स्वस्थ ग्रह के लिए सतत विकास’ रखी गई है।
